The eye backings actually fit inside this one, and I needed a tiny amount of stuffing. In hindsight, I should have used glue for the eyes again, but it‘s not bad. I think this one actually used 8 mm eyes (instead of 6 mm)!
Attempt #4 was with Just Chenille and a 4.0 mm hook. It looks like mint ice cream!
Top to bottom: #2, #1, #3.
This one is dk-weight, double-stranded, using a 4.0 mm hook.
And this is the bottom, sewn up.
This is the underside of the purple/blue octo, showing the glue from his eyes.
I frogged the tentacles and re-did them in blue. I‘ve learned from this project that a lot of my scraps are really, really small! Heh
I lost. I decided, though, that 2.5 mm was too small, so I stayed with 3.0 mm. I was so close!
Attempt #2 may be a game of yarn chicken, but here we go! I‘ll try a 2.5 mm hook for this one to maybe make my yarn last longer.
He‘s so tiny! I knotted together a bunch of dk-weight scraps, and I think he turned out pretty cute! I had a 3.0 mm hook. My biggest struggle was getting the eyes in; the backings didn‘t fit inside, so I had to glue them in, which led to the tentacles being a bit...sticky. I‘m glad to finally have a use for my tiniest eyes, though! Was my sl st supposed to be to the first ch in the ch2 or back to the st where we placed the original sl st? What I did was sl st, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch, and sl st into original st. It turned out about right, I think, so I‘m happy with it. At the very end, I threaded my yarn tail through the final stitches to close up the bottom a little. With the glue, it didn‘t necessarily need it, but I wanted to hide some of the yarn ends and knots. Stay tuned for attempt #2 with one piece of yarn instead of knotted ends.
Ready to bust some scraps! This‘ll be fun to see how it works up in different weights. Is the Materials section supposed to be blank? Also, looking at the instructions, is ”og ch” the original chain? ”og” isn‘t in the abbreviations.
