Even though it looks all fancy and lacey, it's just made out of simple and basic stitches that aren't hard to learn if you don't know how to do them. I used Aunt Lydia's crochet thread in a green color with a 2mm hook. I also ended up leaving off a few rows on the top so that the cap of my chapstick won't pinch it when I use it. I chained about half of the amount in the pattern in the last step as well.
