Pattern is extremely well written. I think a beginner would have no issues completing the project. The directions are very in depth and has perfect pictures to accompany them. I used big twist bulky yarn and 4 mm hook. I didn't follow the patterns suggested hook changes, I just left my tension a bit looser. I kinda wished I had changed hooks, personally. But to show you that it can work even if you don't. Happy Crocheting!
