Ok!!! I was finally able to get to the correct stitch count on the top of the shell. I think I was going too fast because in order to get the right stitch count I had to crochet and count very very slowly but I got it!!
Ok wait so on my first turtle the bottom was bigger than the top of the shell but I just noticed something. I’m not sure if it was intentional in the pattern but for the top of the shell there’s only 6 rounds of increasing and the bottom has 8 rounds of increasing. This leaves them with different stitch counts so the top of my shell has only 48 stitches (it looks like I did 7 rounds of increasing instead of 6) and the bottom has 56. So I did have a stitch count difference of about 10 or so stitches on my first turtle
I feel like maybe I should give this a second try? It seems like maybe I messed up some of it because the head on mine is so big that the turtle can’t stand up on it’s own. I’ll attach a picture for reference. I also think I should’ve sewn on the spots before closing and stuffing the shell. I think I’ll give it another go because I’m not sure how this happened haha.
I had quite a bit of difficulty with attaching the legs. They seem a little too big for the body and it was really hard for me to fit all of them on the bottom of the turtle.
The bottom of the shell turned our bigger than the top. I’m gonna just try to sew it down but it doesn’t fit together.
The reverse single crochet was pretty tricky to figure out because I couldn’t figure out how to yarn over and get it through but once I got the hang of it the stitch looks great. I think it may be kind of difficult for beginners.
I wonder if there’s a way to condense these repeating rounds. It would make the pattern a little more concise if there was a way to say basically “do this exact thing for the next however many rounds”. It’s fine if there’s no way to do that on here it’s just a thought.
Update: I’m just gonna do the slip stitch at the end because without it it’s turning out wonky for me
Is there supposed to be a slip stitch to join at the end of each round? It isn’t listed but I thought you’d normally do that in amigurumi? I’ll try it without but I’m not sure how it’ll go.
It would be helpful if you listed the size of the yarn. I’m going to use size 4 since I have it on hand
