This pattern by #OPontoRosa is easy to follow and works up in less the an evening. I didn‘t think to check how long the recommended length of stitches of the chain would work for the gift recipient. Also, possibly due to a more bulky mushroom cap( due to a personal adjustment not in pattern), it only serves as a wrist strap. I‘ll be adding a red chain to it in a decorative fashion to give it double options, long enough to hang from bags or around the neck or on the wrist. I highly recommend this pattern, even if you are a beginner, I believe you can manage this well. Look up how to make French knots if you‘ve never done them. They‘re quite simple, just take care to keep a finger at the base of the stitch so the knot ends up flush with mushroom and not up higher on the yarn. I like using plastic tapestry needles on smaller crochet project as the yarn inserts into needle easier and there is some give to the needle itself for placement you are aiming for. Fun pattern and per most of my work, a gift for a mushroom lover.
I made sure the end I was inserting fit well even though the attached cord really helps pull it all together. It‘s snug and doesn‘t slip down but pulls open comfortably for repeated use.
I also decided to crochet a red disk to inset into the cap and stitch to the edges around of the small inner hole to secure it being sure ends were tucked behind the disk lining. I didn‘t want the French knot inside stitching to show, esp since I don‘t cut strings for each knot and on something this size, I find it easier to just move to the next location I want a French knot and use yarn needle to pull yarn through at that position.
The size is good however, I used all cotton yarn so I had the be careful not to crochet to tight due to less stretch. I inserted an EOS lip balm into it as I moved up, to keep checking the fit. An acrylic or blend yarn would likely have more stretch so check as you go.
I neglected to change to white on the cap(not on purpose) but I decided to make an extra row on the stem at the top for the tube in front loop only, all around, to help it spread out just a bit.
