You can see how the tapering is more gradual and the shape generally looks more uniform than the original on the right. The modification I made was instead of (sc,inc x 6) around after the sc6, I increased in each stitch x 3 , giving me 12. I then did the (sc, Inc x 6) row which gave me 18 and I proceeded with the pattern from there.
