Bertha the Worker Bee is a hard-working labourer for her hive. She does all the pollen collecting for her queen and all the future worker bees. Defying hazards such as rain and predators, nobody works harder than she does!

The body and legs of Bertha are made in one piece, using spike stitches to create some texture and design. The head, antennae, arms, wings and stinger are made as separate pieces and sewn on afterwards. Bertha also carries a cute little messenger bag which is hung around her shoulders as a final touch.

This pattern sets out instructions using a cotton dk yarn. It is possible to use a different yarn weight and hook size however this will alter the size of your finished project.

Bertha was created as an homage to honeybees everywhere who are quickly becoming more endangered. Please consider planting some pollinator-friendly flowers in your garden this year to help out these amazing little creatures.
