PATTERN DIFFICULTY LEVEL:
Happy Humpty Level 2 = EASY (May require some simple colour work and shaping)
Humpfree the Rainbow Humpty is the mascot and brand logo of Hookanory and Hookanory Crochet Club and is the first pattern I ever published! When I created my own PDF I colour coded the rounds to make it easy to follow - but here on Ribblr the formatting does that for you so I'm so excited to make Humpfree truly interactive!!!
RAINBOW LOVE & HOPE
The story of Humpfree The Rainbow humpty, and the pattern to make him, was borne from the Easter lockdown of 2020, designed with the intention of spreading some colour, creativity and cheer to those in 'creative quarantine' during Easter and the Covid lockdown in 2020.
It was my hope that the story would help kids in lockdown feel a bit safer and happier about staying indoors with a little Rainbow Humpty to keep them company!
Because of this I have pledged to always make sure it is possible to access a free copy of this pattern somewhere because his continued mission is to try and encourage people to take up the hook and make something fun. You can access this pattern for FREE on @Ribblr by FOLLOWING ME , or in my other pattern stores in Lovecrafts and Ravelry.
STORY TIME!
This pattern comes complete with it's own story-rhyme, so you can read all about the origin of Humpfree The Rainbow Humpty. I also narrated the story in a video on Youtube in the style of a bedtime story which I have uploaded a link to in my pattern info; or you can find it by checking out my Youtube channel Hookanory Crochet Club
A GREAT STASH BUSTER
Each colour will only need around 10-15 yards of yarn, except the dark blue which requires a little more, around 25-30 yards.
YOU WILL NEED:
YARN:
Any DK in 8 colours. 10-30yds of each - see materials list in pattern for more details.
If you wanted specific colours they are as follows: Stylecraft Special DK, Matador, Jaffa, Sunshine, Grass Green, Turquoise, Empire, Proper Purple and Lapis.
HOOK SIZE: 3MM
EQUIPMENT & NOTIONS:
A contrast colour scrap yarn to mark the rounds or a stitch marker, scissors, approx 50g polyester toy stuffing, amigurumi pins, a (sharp) yarn needle, 1 pair 8mm safety eyes or embroider your own if you are making for a child under 3 years.
SIZE:
One Size
Finished Measurements Approximately W 14 x H28 (including legs) x D 2.5 cm
made using 100% Acrylic DK.
If you substitute yarn, it may affect sizing or density of fabric, so you may need to adjust your hook size to suit.
TENSION:
Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required
GAUGE: 6 stitches and 7 rows = 1 inch worked in sc (US Terms) dc (UK)
EASY HACK:
If you don't fancy all those colour changes you could make Humpfree in a self striping yarn e.g. Stylecraft merry-go-round DK in 'rainbow' or 'starburst', or other similar yarn. It looks just as bright and fun and is much easier especially if you're just learning to crochet. (see eaamples pics in the cover page!)

st/s - stitch/s
