Here is the third character in the Shoebox Nativity. It is Joseph. Joseph was the stepfather to Jesus. He was a carpenter by trade, and he was a faithful Jewish man.
After a visit by an Angel he knew he had been chosen to raise the Christ Child. In a time when a woman was put to death by stoning for pregnancy outside of marriage, Joseph went ahead and took Mary as his wife.
