When I started the flap I did a cable row then purled a row and knit a row, then I knit a row on the wrong side to have a row of purls the same as the pattern. I knit 1 stitch in garter stitch on each side. After 6 rows (3/4”) I decreased at both ends of the flap - K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. After another 6 rows I decreased again, leaving 13 sts. I used a 2 stitch I-cord bind off to mimic the look of the crocheted one and made an unattached I-cord for a loop for a buttonhole in the centre, then continued the I-cord bind off. Now I have to choose a button. 😊
The changes worked! 😀 After 7 reps it’s 4-1/2” long, which is just right for my scissors. When I bind off I’ll decrease 3 sts above each cable so it doesn’t flare at the top. I’ll use the stretchy k2togtbl bind off.
Changes I made to the pattern to make it wider to fit my scissors. I used Judy’s Magic Cast On and cast on 30 sts (15/needle). I increased to 42 sts (21/needle) by - K2, LLI, k2, LLI, k2, LLI, k3, RLI, k2, RLI, k2, RLI, k2; repeat on second needle. I changed the cable round to - K3, C6F, k3, C6B, k3; repeat on second needle. I knit 4 rounds between cable rounds for a 5 round repeat.
I think my yarn is thinner than the worsted weight used in the pattern plus my scissors are wider so I need to make some adjustments. Mine is 2” wide and my scissors are almost 2-3/4” wide. When I have some time I’ll try 21 sts and change the pattern to - Round 1 - K3, CF6, k3, CB6, k3. Rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5 - Knit.
I’m going to use Red Heart Soft Touch in colour number 4601 cream. I have 36g. I’m using 4mm needles.
