How to choose a safe craft pattern marketplace

Trust signals for buyers

Unfortuntaly, scams and AI patterns are both on the rise. This means there are many people out there stealing patterns or designs and selling it as their own. Often times those patterns are incomplete, too.
When I buy, I look for designer profiles, clear shop names, real project photos, makes or reviews, pattern details, visible policies, and a way to report suspicious listings. The safest marketplaces make it easy to see who made the pattern and how it's supported.
If you are unsure make sure to check the designer's social pages (e.g Instagram or TikTok) to verify which shops are actually really theirs.

Warning signs

These are the red flags I watch for:

• Large anonymous pattern dumps or suspicious PDF bundles.
• AI-looking images with no real finished object shown.
• Popular designs reposted under unrelated names.
• No meaningful designer page or support path.
• Descriptions that feel copied, generic or inconsistent.

Why format matters

PDF files can be totally legitimate, but they're also easy to copy, strip of context and resell. This is unfortunately a common issue designers constantly have to deal with.
Interactive patterns can only be attached to a single account and are much harder to replicate or steal.
