Description
This pattern would be great for a school Egyptian day or any kind of cosplay or costume party. Historically accurate (slightly), it will be a great talking point. Developed for my daughter who is learning about the Ancient Egyptians at school and wanted a 'Cleopatra snake crown'.

This crochet pattern is actually based on a combination of pictures from the diadem of King Tutankhamun and Princess Sithathoriunet, both of which are currently in the Cario museum. Cleopatra is famed for having a snakey crown such as this from the various movies but there isn't much evidence either way.

The cobra represents the goddess Wadjet, a very ancient goddess who is associated with royalty. When the snake is worn over the king's brow, its head raised and hood dilated ready to attack if needed, it is called a uraeus. The uraeus constitutes the consummate symbol of royalty. As time passes it is also worn by royal women and certain gods.

Crowns such as these would have been worn to keep their wigs on. King Tuts was found on his mummy whilst thankfully that of Princess Sithathoriunet was hidden from grave robbers in a secret compartment inside the tomb.
