Description
The Road to Oklahoma quilt pattern was first published in 1895 by the Ladies Art Company and then again in 1929 by the Kansas City Star in their weekly quilt column. The exact history of this block is a bit hard to find online.
This is a simple construction of granny squares which are mattress stitched together. It took me about seven hours to make this block, but you might get faster with time. I would highly recommend laying the blocks out into the diagram BEFORE seaming to ensure everything is in the right place. (And maybe piece them together a different day than making the blocks.)
Note: To give credit, where credit is due, I got this idea after seeing "Desert Star Quiltghan' by C.L. Halvorson on Ravelry. That quiltghan was originally published in April 2009, and she has a few different quilt designs. I have also seen quilt top style afghans patterns dating back to the 1990's.
