Description
I set about to create a mitts pattern while taking a walk one day, hence the name Walk in the Park. The pattern of crossed slip stitches gives these mitts the feel of a walk through the grass or along a drifting path. Instructions are written to create the crossed stitches without the use of a cable needle, making these a great option for an Intermediate knitter who is new to the world of cable knitting. The samples shown in these pictures are the X-Small size worn by a 9 year old, and the pattern is sized X-Small (6 inches around, 6 inches long) to X-Large (8 inches around, 8 inches long) with a quite a bit of stretch to fit most hands 8 years and up.
These mitts are knit bottom-up, so it is very easy to change the length for your perfect fit. When choosing a size, choose by the measurement of your palm around the knuckles and the way you like your gloves to fit. Personally, my hand measures 7.5 inches around the knuckles and I prefer my gloves with a negative ease of around 1 inch, so I wear size Small. These mitts are designed to end across the knuckles below the fingers, but can be made longer by working more rows of ribbing. You can also make the cuffs longer by working more rows of ribbing before starting the hand, just keep in mind that adding rows will change the yardage requirements.
