Core features
These are the crochet app features I actually use (and miss immediately when they're gone):
- Row counter and repeat counters for structured progress.
- Line tracking so you can see the current instruction.
- A pattern library with search, wishlists and saved projects.
- Photos, videos, audio, charts and stitch help for unfamiliar steps.
- Notes, doodles and progress sync across devices.
Format features
I love when an app understands pattern formats, not just counters. Translation, unit conversion, smart sizing, size-only views and mobile-friendly layouts save me from separate calculators, screenshots or handwritten notes that disappear into the void.

If I'm crafting for an hour, comfort matters. I look for dark mode, reduce motion and left-hand mode, plus readable ePatterns with zoomed photos, larger font size and wider line spacing.

Ribblr is my pick when I want interactive crochet patterns, not just a tracker next to a static PDF. You get ePatterns, progress tools, and a marketplace with free and paid patterns - plus community makes, events, and tools for designers to publish interactive patterns.
How to test an app
My test is simple: try one free beginner pattern. If I can find my place, count repeats, check a stitch, and keep going without swapping between three tools, it passes.
