What is Ribbuild?

Ribbuild is Ribblr's pattern builder. I think of it as the place where a draft in notes, docs, screenshots and half-finished formatting turns into a real interactive ePattern. Instead of only uploading a static file, designers can use Ribbuild to structure the pattern for actual making, with progress tools, media, translations, sizing support and cleaner reading built in from the start.

What Ribbuild does

Using Ribbuild, designers can build patterns in a format that is meant to be followed, not just downloaded. You focus on the instructions and project logic, while Ribbuild helps structure the pattern for Ribblr ePattern features such as translation, cm/in conversion, smart sizing, stitch help, media and interactive reading.

That matters because a well-built pattern is easier for makers to actually use. Instead of manually formatting a long PDF and hoping people keep their place, you can create a step-by-step experience where progress, line tracking and support tools already live inside the pattern.

How it fits a real designer workflow

When I think about Ribbuild practically, I see it as the bridge between draft and publish. You can start with a brand new pattern, build it line by line, add sections, attach media, and shape the pattern as you design. Or you can bring over an existing draft and turn it into something much more interactive than the original file.

That means Ribbuild is not just a final formatting tool. It is part writing tool, part organization layer, and part publishing system for makers who want the pattern to work well inside Ribblr.

How to import an existing pattern

Ribbuild supports quick copy and paste of an existing pattern such as a PDF or document draft. Ribbuild then helps turn it into an interactive format with generated abbreviations and accessibility-friendly output. That is a much faster starting point than rebuilding a pattern line by line from scratch.

For designers with an existing catalog, this is one of the strongest reasons to use Ribbuild. You do not need to throw away the pattern you already wrote. You can use it as the source, then improve the reading experience inside Ribblr.

What designers should add

Designers should add photos, videos, audio, PDF files, YouTube, TikTok and Instagram links, plus charts and pattern details. I love this because makers do not have to hunt for help in five different tabs. It is all inside the ePattern.

Media is especially useful for confusing joins, shaping, sewing steps, assembly, finishing and charts. A short targeted demo can remove a lot of support questions later.

Who it is for

Ribbuild is for crochet, knitting, sewing and Tunisian crochet designers who want a more interactive format than a static file. It works on any device through Ribblr, and it helps protect your designs against theft and piracy, which are far too common with PDFs but much harder with interactive ePatterns.

If you want to publish patterns that are easier to follow, easier to update and easier to support, Ribbuild is the right starting point. And if you want the full walkthrough, the Ribbuild guidelines and Ribblr for designers pages are the right next stops.
