Description
This is a one-size, knitted afikomen cover, knitted in one piece with light seaming and an added button and optional duplicate stitch pattern. The vertical stripes are done using a fancy laddering technique - it’s much easier than it looks! You have three options for the color work. Choosing to do without, choosing to do it with duplicate stitch, or using the ladder technique. Watch this video tutorial (https://blog.weareknitters.com/knitting-stitches/how-to-add-vertical-stripes-in-another-color/) to decide whether you’ll use the ladder technique.

I knitted this using self-dyed DK swish yarn from Knitpicks and with US 6/4mm needles. This is a 100% merino wool DK yarn, but you can use any yarn and needle combo that achieves gauge! At gauge, the afikomen cover snugly fits a piece of matzah, so if you’re wanting a cover that is less snug around the afikomen, go up a needle size or use a slightly thicker yarn. You need such a small amount of yarn in both colors that it’s a great stash buster or an excuse to make two matching but inverted covers!

Gauge: on US 6/4mm needles, 17st x 26 rows = 4"x4" (10cmx10cm) in stockinette
Depending on your fit, measure your swatch blocked or unblocked. If you’ll be blocking and you want a snug fit, measure blocked. If you’re blocking and want a slightly looser fit, measure unblocked. Because of the yarn and pattern, blocking won't dramatically change the shape and dimensions, and will primarily even out stitches.

Finished dimensions: 22 inches wide by 7.5" tall
