Description
This is a 5 in 1 pattern for bird keychains! You can make either the chick, chicken, penguin, cardinal, or cockatiel - or all 5! The finished bird keychains are about 2" by 2". They are no-sew / low-sew, with some having surface crocheted details.
You will need:
- Chenille yarn (weight 6) in yellow, white, orange, red, black, and gray. I used Parfait Chunky in Yellow, White, Tangerine, Cardinal, Ruby, Black, and Fog.
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- 6 mm safety eyes
- Keychain hardware
- scissors
- tapestry needle
You will need to know the following stitches/techniques:
- single crochet
- magic circle
- working in the back loop only
- single crochet increases
- single crochet decreases
- surface crochet
Instructions for the following stitches are included:
- Picot
- Bobble

Pattern Notes
- This pattern is worked in a spiral, so do not join between rows.
- Change colors by completing the previous stitch with the next color.
- How I sew on the keychain:
o Cut a few inches of matching yarn. Thread the yarn through the bottom chain of the keychain, then pull both ends through the top of the plushie a bit less than a cm apart. Put the plushie inside out, then tie the ends of the yarn together a few times to make sure it's secure.
- The surface crochet on the chicken, cardinal, and cockatiel can all be done after completing the rest of the bird (as opposed to before stuffing) if that is easier for you.
- If you are a beginner, I recommend starting with the chick as it requires the least color changes and no surface crochet.
