Description
The Celtic Braid Headband is a sophisticated, highly textured accessory worked in the
round. It features the elastic Celtic Braid Cable pattern complemented by a neat 1x1 ribbing and
a flawless Italian cast-on. The design is finished with a tubular bind-off for a clean, professional
look.
This piece provides a snug, comfortable fit and is wide enough to keep you warm through the
coldest days. It is a versatile accessory that looks beautiful with loose hair, and is equally perfect
for wearing with updos or top knots.
Pair it with the matching Celtic Braid Scarf to create a stunning, cozy winter set.
MATERIALS & YARN:
Yarn: Designed for Medium / Worsted (4) weight yarn (approx. 9 wpi).
Original Yarn Used: Lang Yarns Magnolia (85% Virgin Wool Merino Extrafine Superwash,
15% Nylon; 273 yds / 250 m per 100 g skein). Sample shown in color: 0006.
Total Amount Required: Approx. 55 g / 1.9 oz (approx. 135 m / 148 yds), including tassels.
Skeins Needed: 1 skeins.
Yarn Notes & Substitution:
For this design, I chose Lang Yarns Magnolia because it is incredibly soft, plush, and completely non-irritating to the skin, which is essential for close-fitting accessories like a headband and a scarf. It provides wonderful winter warmth and beautifully highlights the volumetric texture of the Celtic braid.
This pattern uses a chainette-construction yarn, which creates a lightweight yet plump fabric. If substituting, look for a Worsted weight yarn with similar yardage (approx.250 m / 273 yds per100 g). Merino wool blends or soft wool chains will work best to achieve the same texture, volume, and stretch.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Project Flow: This headband is worked seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. Your knitting journey will follow these stages: a flawless Italian cast-on, a neat 1x1 ribbing section, and a 3-round purl transition. The main body of the headband consists of 25 rounds in total, worked strictly according to the Celtic Braid Cable Chart. The piece is finished with a matching 3-round purl transition back to smaller needles and a professional tubular bind-off.
How to Read the Chart: Because the headband is worked in the round, every round is a Right Side (RS) round. Read all chart rounds from the bottom up, and from right to left.
Pattern Repeat: The main pattern repeat is outlined in a red box on the chart. Repeat this section 6 times across each round until you reach your Beginning-of-Round (BOR) marker.
Pattern Shifting: Due to the nature of working this specific cable design in the round, the pattern will naturally shift at certain points. Do not worryevery single shift moment and BOR marker relocation is fully supported by close-up video guides detailed in the row-by-row instructions below
