Description
Surprise your guests at the lunch table with some cute chicken egg holders like these.

This pattern describes in US terminology how to crochet an egg holder as shown in pictures, made using 5 ply / sport weight cotton yarn and crochet hook C (2.5 mm).
Finished size will be approx. 2.75" (7 cm) tall. This pattern is also suitable for wool or acrylic yarn. SMC Catania Solids was used to create the egg holder in the pictures.

Note: Made using thicker yarn and matching size hook you could create a larger version of this chicken, resulting in a little basket. See pictures.
The chicken in picture can hold up to 5 or 6 eggs and was made of 3 strands of acrylic yarn (8 ply / DK) held together and crochet hook size J (6 mm).
3 Different colors of yarn have been used to create a speckled look.

(approx.) Gauge: 5 single crochet = 0.8" (2 cm)
Skill level: advanced beginner / intermediate

Stitiches used: slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, increasing, decreasing

Materials used:
- Crochet hook size C (2.5 mm)
- Fiberfill stuffing, 2 small black beads (approx. 3 mm diameter)
- Cotton yarn in white (approx. 30 gram), small amounts of red and brown
- Stitch markers, tapestry needle, pins, white sewing thread
