You can use whatever yarn and corresponding hook. The bigger the yarn and hook the bigger the mushroom!
TIPS:
When working BLO attach white yarn in the last stitch from the previous round and Sc in there then into the first
stitch in the new round then when I get to the last stitch I do it as a DEC into the first stitch to create less of a hole.
