Description
INTRODUCING:
CHUCKIE CHICK EGG COSY - CROCHET PATTERN
The first in a series of Amigurumi Animal egg Cosies by Deb Ward @Hookanory

Chuckie the chick is a darling little cutie, just perfect to cover and coddle your breakfast (or chocolate) eggs! This sweet egg cosy is the perfect beginner, and pocket-friendly project. Using 3 fun, bright, springtime colours and simple stitches, it's a great introduction to amigurumi. Requiring no decreasing, and limited sewing skills, you can make this project in an hour or two using little more than 20g of yarn!

PATTERN DIFFICULTY LEVEL:
Happy Humpty Level 1 = BEGINNER FRIENDLY (Project uses basic stitches. May include basic increases and decreases.) See abbreviations list below for a list of stitches used.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
STITCHES: You will need to know how to crochet the main basic stitches, mr, ch, sc, dc, tr, slst, inc, and F.O. However if you are not sure, instructions for these can be found on Ribblr's interactive features or can be searched in You Tube. Specialist stitches are always included as a instructions in the pattern information section of my patterns.

TECHNIQUES:
-You will need to know how to thread a yarn needle and basic sewing/embroidery skills.
-To know how to attach safety eyes if you are using them.
-And how to crochet in the round in the continuous rounds (spiral) amigurumi method.

BONUS SKILLS DEVLOPMENT!
-You will learn to make 3d shapes using simple stitches, and shaping techniques.
-To mark rounds using scrap yarn.
-To finish a piece using invisible joining.
-To place eyes evenly, to shorten eye shanks and file them safely, create tufts.
-And to confidently assemble your amigurumi like a pro!

A GREAT STASH BUSTER
This pattern requires less than one 20g ball of Sirdar Happy Cotton or equivalent yarn to make the main body of the egg-cosy, and very small amounts 5g or less for most other parts.

YOU WILL NEED:
YARN = Sirdar Happy Cotton DK (or any DK cotton yarn)
100% cotton 20g = 43m/47yds
(U.S. equivalent weight = light worsted, (Medium 4)
Acrylic yarn is also suitable suggested weight: DK/ MED 4 e.g Red Heart Super Saver, or Stylecraft Special DK

IN SHADES:
Yellow - Shade 788 (Quack) - approx 15g = approx 33m/36yds
Light Orange - 792 (Juicy) - approx 5g = approx 11m/12yds
Dark Pink - 799 (Bubblegum) - approx 5g = approx 11m/12yds
Black - 775 (liquorice) - approx 5g = approx 11m/12yds (only if making your own or embroidered or crocheted eyes)

HOOK SIZE: 3MM

EQUIPMENT & NOTIONS:
1 pair 8mm safety eyes (or crochet or embroider your own using scrap black yarn)
3mm Hook
Scissors
Darning needle
Ruler/Tape measure - if working to gauge.
A contrast colour scrap yarn to mark the rounds
stitch marker

PLUS THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ONLY IF USING SAFETY EYES:
Wire cutters or craft knife for trimming eye shanks
Safety goggles or eye protectors
Emery board or fine grade sandpaper
Strong glue e.g. Superglue or hot melt glue gun

SAFETY NOTICE:
Do not use safety eyes or small buttons, beads or other components if making for a child under 3 years. If making this item to sell you must ensure you meet all the required safety regulations applicable to the country in which you will be selling, including testing and labelling.
If using safety eyes, you will need to wear eye protection when cutting and sanding the eye shanks in order to protect your eyes from debris.

SIZE:
One Size
Finished Measurements Approximately H3 x W2.5 inches / 7.75 x 6.5 cm ( not including tuft)
made using 100% Cotton DK yarn.

If you substitute yarn, it may affect the sizing or density of fabric, so you may need to adjust your hook size up or down to meet gauge.

TENSION:
Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required and/or the finished size of the item.

GAUGE: 6 stitches and 7 rows = 1 inch / 2.5cm worked in sc

PATTERN NOTES
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds in the amigurumi technique.
Decreases are worked in the invisible decrease method whereby the FLO of 2 stitches are worked together as one stitch.
Increases are worked 2 stitches into one stitch hole.
Instructions on how to do the bobble stitches are included in the pattern.
