Cotton is probably the best choice for crochet mandala, coasters and table mats.
Cotton yarn doesn't melt and the coasters or mandala might be used under hot objects.
Cotton is pretty easy to clean. Cotton can easily be washed and dried to be used again, keeping the coasters or mandala looking fresh and clean, machine wash at 40 C.
Cotton have the ability to be absorbent, but inelastic as well. This means the coaster or mandala will absorb any spills but it will not change its shape when wet.

Materials & tools you will need:
Cotton yarn 50gr (1.7oz) approx. - Aran in UK, Worsted in the USA, 10ply in Australia.
Crochet hook size 4.5mm.
Yarn needle to weave in ends.
