This is a simple placemat pattern uses single stranded (true 4 weight yarn) or double stranded (faux 4 weight cotton yarn). It offers repeated rows working in the back loop only for a quick makeup. The fringe is optional and you can simply cut to desired length. Finished size is dependent on fiber used, hook size and personal tension. A double stranded placemat will be larger than a single stranded one.
