Description
Scarves are great, but how many do you need? Instead, make an easy retro necktie.
Esquire Martini uses seed stitch and alternating stripes to create the illusion of colorwork. A solid yarn and an hand-dyed or variegated yarn enhance this look, but you can definitely use 2 solid colors or even just one for great results.
I chose a silk blend yarn because I wanted something that I would wear with a vest a la Annie Hall; it's classy enough to wear in the office as well as to the club.
Simple increases and decreases hidden in the stitch pattern shape the tie so it's easy to knot and looks refined.
This pattern adapts well to many dk weight yarns, but I would avoid cotton or viscose because of those fibers' tendencies to grow as they are used. The tie also can easily be shortened or lengthened to customize.
