Description
The gladiolus or sword lily (the name gladiolus does come from the latin 'gladius' meaning sword) is a flower packed with symbolism, from strength, honour and victory to love and even remembrance, and is the august birth flower! This pattern comes together easily and is as much work as you want to make it. While a stem of gladioli can support up to fifteen flowers, you can make as many as your heart desires (or your yarn allows).
Included are instructions to make a stem with a rod or wire inside, but this is completely optional: making just the flower and attaching it to a clip or hairtie, or making multiple and turning it into a flower crown are only a few ideas you can make by omitting the rod or wire. The stem is thick enough to stuff, so this too is an option: stuffing it firmly should keep it upright as well.
Items made using this pattern may be sold in your own shop, but please give me credit for the design. A link to my shop would be greatly appreciated!
I would love to see your creations using any of my patterns, I'm @kingfisher_studios_crochet on Instagram, or send me a DM here on ribblr!
