How I work:
I work with X-stitches: yarn under - yarn over.

Instead of doing magic ring you can use the chain 2 method (the one that best works for you).

Colour changing (optional): yarn under with colour 1, pull loop through, yarn over with colour 2 and pull through both loops. I recommend cutting the yarn after every colour change by tying the tails together.
