Description
This is a very substantial and warm shawl. The design allows very easily for adaption of length.
The two shoulder panels can be converted into sleeves, with a stitch or two, very, very, easily. To create shape and interest, the panels are created using different stitch lengths.
Throughout I continuously increase the hook size to increase the stitch size and make the garment more open and flexible at the bottom. This is written into the pattern, but it is not essential that you change your hook size. It will not have any impact on the pattern: only on the final length. The gauge has been measured using the 3.5 mm hook, USA size (E). Please note that the gauge changes as you increase your hook size but if you get the tension correct at the start you will not have any issues. The finished garment in the images is quite long but as this is a top-down pattern, you should have no problem stopping when you reach your desired length.
This would be an ideal project for graduated yarn. The changes in colour combined with the changed in stitch size would make this truly an awesome project. considering how the garment builds, for those with patience there is scope for many and varied colour combinations.
You will need to be okay with short rows, Back post stitches and very long stitches. and to follow the `pattern exactly, you will need to have a few hooks of different sizes..
