Description
About This Pattern:
This pattern came from a scarf I made for Carol to showcase a new dyework she had done in a cake of yarn. I saw this yarn at her booth at the DFW Fiber Fest. I asked her if I could take this yarn and make a scarf for her that was Tunisian Crochet. I hit the books and found this stitch and worked up a swatch and fell in love with this stitch. The way the colors just weaved in and out of the stitch was amazing. Carol, then messaged me and asked if I would write a pattern for this stitch.
While this pattern will be for the Adventurous Beginner all skill levels will enjoy working this up and see what the yarn and stitch will take them. I will have some videos on how to do the different stitches.
A note about Tunisian Crochet and this pattern:
When working Tunisian crochet it is to be known that you are working length not width like you would in traditional crochet. What this means is that if you want a wider shawl or scarf then you will need to chain more than what this pattern calls for. Just remember that you need to end on an odd number.

About this stitch:

This stitch is a wonderful addition to your Tunisian crochet knowledge base. This stitch when working with a variegated yarn makes a nice tweed looking fabric. This stitch along with almost all Tunisian Crochet stitches make a tight dense fabric. Also, depending on the yarn you are using the fabric will be tight and dense, if using a 3 or 4 weight. While using a light weight yarn you may still have a tight fabric but it will not be heavy and dense. Tunisian Crochet is known for it to look like it is woven. Whatever yarn you use to make this pattern and whatever size you make this pattern it will be a favorite to make for years to come. So, have fun with this pattern and show me what you make with this stitch. I would love to see what you come up with. If you do make something with this pattern please tag me and Chicken Coop Dyeworks so we can see what you have made.
So, this pattern was going to be named the Tire Tread stitch. But since I offset the stitches it came out to be that it was the Honeycomb Stitch. Thanks to a tester, Snickie, they were able to point that out to me.

Hook: 7mm Tunisian hook. When working with Tunisian crochet you need to go up one or two sizes that are on the ball band. If you are working the stitches and they are tight on the hook go up a size. You want the stitches to glide over the hook if they are too tight then they will be hard to work the next row of stitches.
If you are using the kit then this is for the fingering weight. In normal crochet I use a 2mm or 2.5mm hook to crochet in. However, in Tunisian crochet I used a 3.5mm hook and got the swatch of 24st x 28 rows in a 4x4in square.
