Description
This one-skein cowl is perfect for showing off that single skein of beautiful yarn you had to buy but now don't know what to do with it. This pattern has a unique stitch repeat, making it easy to get into a rhythm with minimal counting. Use a variegated or tonal yarn that provides good stitch definition to show off the beautiful, unique texture this pattern creates.
Do you love the look of knitwear but only know how to crochet? Enter the waistcoat stitch which resembles the stockinette stitch. This pattern uses the crochet waistcoat stitch (also called the knit stitch, split single crochet, center single crochet, flat single crochet, shallow single crochet, or the center post single crochet stitch). Unlike other crochet stitches, the waistcoat stitch is a tight stitch so it creates a thick, dense fabric that is perfect for cold weather. If you are not familiar with the waistcoat stitch, step-by-step instructions, detailed photos, and video tutorials are included which makes this an advanced beginner pattern (familiar with foundation stitches, chaining, single crochet, double crochet, front and back post double crochet, and yarn over slip stitches) and perfect for visual learners.
This pattern is easily customizable to different sizes and yarn weights so you can use any yarn you wish as long as you adjust your gauge accordingly. This pattern uses US abbreviations and was tech edited and tested.

Materials
Yarns
1 skein of Worsted/Aran Weight (#4) Yarn. Approximately 190 yds/100g. However, this pattern is easily adapted to any yarn weight. The sample pictured used The Wandering Flock‘s Worsted yarn in Neon Lilac.
Hooks
I recommend using one size larger than the recommended hook size on your yarn label. I used a size 6.5mm hook to crochet the sample pictured. I also highly recommend using a pointed hook to help make the waistcoat stitch easier like the Ophire Co hooks.
