Description
Looking to warm up? How about some Hot Scotch? This hat and scarf set will knit up quickly in bulky yarn. Go for a soft yarn that drapes so your tam/beret/slouch looks relaxed, not stiff. The fair-isle band gives it added coolness vibes. These bands are traditional fair isle two-color stranded knitting and they are easy-peasy, so don't be afraid if you're new to colorwork.
And since the prep school look is trending this fall, I had to add a scarf, so it's all matchy-matchy. Like the hat, the scarf is also knit in the round, beginning and ending with the fair fair isle band. That way, just when you've had enough of the two-color stranded business, you get a nice long break of soothing stockinette. And no purling. Ever.

Bonus point: the fair isle band looks the same both upside down and right-side up. Pattern includes instructions for a shorter scarf with a slit in the tube so you can pull one end of the scarf through for a close, neck-snuggling fit, but it won't hurt my feelings if you skip the slit and opt for a long skinny scarf.
