The baguette bag is an iconic fashion accessory that is very much on trend again in the 2020s. With many of us forgoing our heavy totes for smaller purses, the baguette is the perfect alternative. Its small size makes it a great wear-everywhere purse; the short single strap handle can be worn on one shoulder or held as a top-handle. This one-ball project is suitable for advanced beginners and also makes a great stash buster.

The bag is worked in three separate parts: two side panels and a piece for the bottom/sides/strap which are then sewn together. I recommend you read through the pattern completely before beginning, just to make sure you understand everything Closure and embellishments are optional.

This pattern is written for a medium-sized baguette but can easily be amended to create a smaller or larger version by using a yarn and/or a hook with a different gauge. Do make sure your finished swatch is stiff and tight enough for a bag, though.

Exact gauge isn't crucial but will affect the final size of the bag. A gauge of 14 stitches and 18 rows in sc for a 10x10cm swatch results in a finished bag that measures 25x14x4cm.
