Description
This pattern includes both options - the original PDF pattern by KnittyBae and a converted interactive version, so you can choose the format that works best for you!
Presenting a crochet pattern for the Keyhole Sweater by Knittybae. This downloadable pattern features an alternation of basic crochet stitches that create an airy, textured mesh effect inspired by the keyhole shape. The Keyhole Sweater is a made-to-measure crochet design - you can follow the provided size or use your own measurements to customize the fit exactly how you like. Each step includes notes and tips to help you adjust the sizing as needed.
This pattern is provided in English and uses American crochet shorthand/abbreviations. This document includes instructive images to further help you pursuit your goal result.
Recommended Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and above.
Pattern uses following crochet stitches: singe crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), 2 double crochet cluster (2dc-cl).
CONSTRUCTION OF THE SWEATER
The Keyhole Sweater is worked from the bottom-up and constructed from two main body panels the front and back. You'll begin by crocheting the front body panel, which is identical in construction to the back. Once you reach your desired length, each panel is shaped at the top to form the neckline.
After both panels are complete and the necklines are shaped, they're joined together at the shoulders. The sleeves are then added directly onto the body and worked flat. Once finished, the sides of the sleeves and sweater are seamed together using the mattress stitch from the wrong side (WS) to achieve a clean, polished look on the right side (RS).
To complete the sweater, add ribbing either crocheted or knitted, depending on your preference to the sleeves, neckline, and bottom hem for a finished touch.
YARN RECOMMENDATIONS:
You can use any yarn of your choice, such as cotton, wool or acrylic,
I don't recommend using yarns that are too colorful for this project, as the lace-like effect might get lost in the colors.
You can combine 2 or 3 strands of different weight yarns to create your unique look for this sweater.
To ensure it works well with the 8 mm crochet hook used in this design, I recommend using a yarn no heavier than Bulky (no. 5) weight when working with a single strand.
(e.g. For strawberry pink sample sweater I've used two strands of yarn held together: Light weight (no. 3) and Fine weight (no. 2). I've used DROPS Belle in shade 11 Old Pink and DROPS Flora in shade 24 Strawberry Pink.)
Please feel free to share your finished garment on Social Media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest), tagging me @knittybae and using the hashtag #knittybae and #keyholesweater.
