Description
The koru, which is often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, is based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond. Its circular shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. It represents peace, tranquility, personal growth, positive change and awakening.
I was working on this project when the prefecture I was living in Japan was hit by two strong earthquakes (known as the Kumamoto Earthquakes). Knitting quickly became a source of peace and tranquility, calming me down and finding my peace of mind, my own personal koru. Was this a form of synchronicity (meaningful coincidence), where the project that symbolizes peace and tranquility provided me with such during a trying time? I believe so. And I hope that this project will do the same for you, if you ever find yourself going through hardship.
