Description
This is a simple pattern with almost infinite variations. Beginning knitters can knit a plain version like the one I've given in this pattern; more advanced knitters can choose to incorporate cables, colorwork, and other patterns. You can also lengthen the rib by a few inches to make a hat with a roll-up brim.
Supplies:
US 8 (5 mm/UK 6) 16" (40 cm) circular needle
US 8 (5 mm/ UK 6) double-pointed needles (four or five)
Worsted-weight yarn (I often use Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool, shown)
Stitch marker
Weaving needle
Skills required:
Casting on
Binding off
Knit
Purl
Knit front and back
