Description
This pattern includes both options - the original PDF pattern by KnittyBae and a converted interactive version, so you can choose the format that works best for you!
Presenting a crochet pattern for the Mesh Me Up Poncho by Knittybae. This crochet pattern is made by creating mesh squares with bordered edges that form the poncho's checkered design.
The Mesh Me Up Poncho is a made to measure crochet pattern you can follow the provided size or use your own measurements to customize the fit exactly how you like. Each step includes notes and tips to help you adjust the sizing as needed.
This pattern is provided in English and uses American crochet shorthand/abbreviations. This document spans 22 pages and includes instructive images to further help you pursuit your goal result.
Recommended Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and above.
Pattern uses following crochet stitches: single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc) and slip stitch (sl st).
CONSTRUCTION OF THE PONCHO
The Mesh Me Up Poncho is constructed as one piece, with a square shape (equal width and length) and a boat neckline in the center. It's worked from the bottom-up, forming two body panels the front and back. You'll begin by 4 crocheting the front body panel, which is identical in construction to the back. Once you reach the midpoint of the poncho, the neckline is shaped in
the center, then the back body panel is worked continuously.
Once both body panels (main piece) are complete, tassel openings are created along the first and last rows of the poncho. Along the sides, turning chains are used as openings.
To complete the poncho, add tassels (fringe) by attaching them to the created tassel openings and turning chains along the edges of the poncho. Attach from the wrong side (WS) to maintain a clean and polished look on the right side (RS).
MATERIALS:
- CROCHET HOOK 3 3,5 mm (recommended to maintain the intended design),
- YARN Super Fine (no. 1) or Fine (no. 2) compatible with 3 or 3,5 mm crochet hook
- SCISSORS
- TAPE MEASURE
- STITCH MARKERS
- TAPESTRY NEEDLE (for weaving in ends)
YARN RECOMMENDATIONS:
- For the best drape and to maintain the intended look of the design, the Mesh Me Up Poncho pattern works best with cotton or linen yarns. You can also use blends (e.g. 50% linen, 50% acrylic, etc.),
- I don't recommend using yarns that are too colorful for this project, as the mesh and squared effect might get lost in the colors,
- I highly recommend using a crochet hook of size 3 or 3,5 mm to maintain the intended mesh look and lightweight feel of the poncho.
- To ensure it works well with the 3 or 3,5 mm crochet hook used in this design and to maintain the best drape of the poncho, I don't recommend using a yarn heavier than Fine (no. 2) weight.
e.g.:
To make a brown sample poncho, I've used 3 mm crochet hook and single strand of yarn: Super fine (no. 1) Limol Soft Cotton 100%, 50g / 180 m in shade 02 Chesnut. In total I've used approx. 1440 m of yarn in total for a 10-square poncho with tassels,
