Description
No sew mini hippo
The hippopotamus, or hippo, lives in Africa. Hippos are a semi aquatic mammel, meaning they live a large part of their lives in water! Hippos stay in the water during the day to stay cool, and come on shore to eat when the temperature cools down. Hippos have very dense body matter, causing them to be unable to float! They walk along the bottom of lakes and rivers to maneuver in the water. There are 2 species of hippo, the common hippo, that lives in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the pygmy hippo, that lives in West Africa. Pygmy hippos, though smaller than the common hippo, are said to be much more aggressive of the 2 species. Due to a population decline of 7-20% over the past decade, both common hippos, and pygmy hippos are listed as "vulnerable" by conservation experts. There are between 115,000-148,000 common hippos, and 2,000-3,000 pygmy hippos in the world.
