Here are 3 variations of a crochet mug rug. I came up with these for my advanced crochet technique workshop at Visionaries, but IMO they are suitable for crocheters of all skill levels.

These mug rugs are designed for the beginner crocheter who wants to level up and expand their skill set. There are 3 versions, each showcasing a different crochet technique; the thermal, alpine, and front loop dropped crochet stitches. They may sound complicated, but if you know how to single, double, and treble crochet, then these will be a breeze and you'll end up with several new techniques and textures in your crochet tool kit!

Each of these mug rugs starts with foundation single or double crochet rows, but you can swap them out with the traditional method of chains and singe/double crochets. Just be sure to adjust your chain count for your turning chain.

OPTIONAL: For a clean color change, finish the last stitch of indicated row with the color change (pull through your last loops with the new color) and then work the chains with the new color.
