This is a simple one-size-fits-all outfit for Barbies, no matter what shape or era. Because of the stretchy nature of the sideways garter stitch, these dresses fit both vintage and modern Barbie body types (Petite, Tall, and Curvy), as well as other fashion dolls with similar proportions. The key is the sideways garter stitch, which stretches beautifully to fit every size and shape. The first one I made was as simple as it gets - two rectangles sewn together - and then I realized I could use it as a base to mix and match different necklines and hemlines. I designed three neckline types and three hem types for a total of nine different styles.

The first dress has no shaping at all, giving it a boat neck and a straight, approximately knee-length hem that's easy to adjust in length; the asymmetrical and v-shaped hems fall below the knee. The wide necklines and armholes are helpful for slipping the dresses on feet-first.

You can use any kind of sock yarn for this project. I used yarn left over from knitting socks, so the labels have been long since lost, but I recommend a fine or super fine variegated yarn like Patons Kroy Socks.
