Description
Start baking and stop burning your hands with potholders like these.
This Crochet Pattern describes in US terminology how to crochet a set of Sweet Bakery potholders as shown in pictures, made using sport weight cotton yarn and crochet hook size D (3 mm).
The potholders are double layered, making them sturdy and thick enough to hold all hot dishes.
Schachenmayr/SMC Catania was used to create the pictured potholders.
Finished size will be approx. 6" x 6" (15 x 15 cm) including the edges.
These handy potholders are made in 2 separate panels. The front panel is worked up with 1 granny square at the bottom tip, and mitered stripes towards the top. The back panel is also worked in mitered stripes, but in a solid color. Front and back panel are joined together with a single crochet edging all around, finished with a hanging loop.
You can use all of your scraps of yarn to make these lovely potholders, for a colorful and cheery look. Make sure though, that all yarn scraps are the same weight and material.
Skill level: intermediate crochet.
Approx. Gauge: not important for this pattern, just make sure to maintain your tension throughout the project.
Stitches and techniques used: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, back post double crochet, surface slip stitches, working between stitches, blocking (optional)
Materials used:
- crochet hook size D (3 mm)
- sport weight cotton yarn, for a set of 2 potholders: white (approx. 50 gr, 137 yds, 125 m), mint (approx. 25 gr, 70 yds, 63 m), pink, yellow, blue, orange (each approx. 10 gr, 14 yds, 13 m)
- stitch markers, tapestry needle, pins, scissors
