This little scarf is inspired by the kinds of things my grandmother, Rita, was always knitting. Every holiday, we looked forward to her presents which without fail included a new washcloth, towel, or dishcloth in this iconic (at least in our
family) checked pattern. As I write this, my grandmother Rita has just passed away at the age of 97 <3
The pattern is simple and super cozy to knit: small checks are created by switching between knit and purl stitches in blocks of 3 stitches.
You work these across the row, and repeat over 6 rows in height before swapping the knits and purls to flip the direction of the squares.
Throughout the pattern, I'll guide you on when to continue as before and when to switch it up.
