This crochet pattern is for a small square featuring a rubber ring. The pattern is worked in the round using tapestry crochet to create the coloured rubber ring, which is then finished with surface slip stitch. Using DK yarn, a 4 mm hook, and a tension of 18 sc x 18 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm, the square measures approximately 12 cm x 12 cm after blocking. If your tension varies or you use different yarn or hook sizes, your square may be slightly smaller or larger. If you are incorporating this square into my beach blanket, it does not really matter as long as you are consistent; your final blanket will simply end up larger or smaller. The finished square, including the border, has 21 stitches on each side plus 1 stitch in each corner.
