Description
A Double-Knitting Scarf Inspired by Engadin Sgraffiti
Anyone who has visited the Engadin region of the Swiss Alps is likely to have noticed the beautiful sgraffiti decorating house corners, façades, and windows. The wealth of intricate shapes and figures fascinated me and became the inspiration for this double-knitting scarf.
Mur Bella is designed around the same concept and construction as my scarf Pictura, but features a completely different collection of motifs. Both scarves are made up of individual panels that can be arranged in any order, giving you the freedom to create your own unique combination.
And there is an extra possibility: the panels from Pictura and Mur Bella can be mixed and matched with each other. This allows you to combine motifs from both designs and create an even greater variety of personalized scarves.
The different motifs make knitting this scarf especially entertaining. Counting-intensive panels alternate with sections that can be worked almost intuitively, and there are even individual rows without any color changes. The variety keeps the knitting experience fresh from beginning to end.
The pattern is clearly divided into individual sections, with one section for each panel. Both a chart and detailed row-by-row instructions are included, so you can choose the format you prefer. The difficulty level is indicated at the beginning of each panel.
Most panels are suitable even for knitters who are relatively new to double knitting. A few more intricate panels are recommended for experienced double knitters. If you're still gaining confidence with the technique, you can simply skip the more challenging panels and use the included length-extension options to compensate for the omitted panels.
Several options for customizing and extending the scarf length are included, making it easy to adapt the finished scarf to your preferences.
Pictura + Mur Bella
Love both designs? The Pictura + Mur Bella Bundle combines the two patterns and gives you access to both collections of motifs. Since the panels are interchangeable, the bundle opens up even more possibilities for creating your own combinations.
Whether you knit one scarf as designed, rearrange the panels, or mix motifs from both patterns, you can make a scarf that is uniquely yours.
