Description
A Double-Knitting Scarf Inspired by Engadin Sgraffiti
The intricate sgraffiti of the Engadin region of the Swiss Alps have always fascinated me. The beautifully detailed shapes, ornaments, and figures found on house façades, around windows, and at the corners of traditional buildings became the inspiration for this double-knitting scarf.
Pictura is built around a collection of individual panels, each featuring a different motif inspired by the decorative language of Engadin sgraffiti. The panels can be arranged in any order, giving you the freedom to create a scarf that is entirely your own.
And there is an extra possibility: the panels from Pictura and my scarf Mur Bella are interchangeable. You can mix motifs from both designs to create countless different combinations and personalize your scarf even further.
The variety of motifs makes knitting Pictura an especially enjoyable experience. Some panels require careful counting and concentration, while others can be worked almost intuitively. There are even individual rows without any color changes, giving you a little break between more intricate sections. The changing rhythm keeps the knitting interesting from the first panel to the last.
The pattern is clearly divided into individual sections, with one section for each panel. Every panel includes both a chart and detailed row-by-row instructions, so you can choose whichever format you prefer. The difficulty level is indicated at the beginning of each panel.
Most panels are suitable even for knitters who are relatively new to double knitting. A few of the more intricate motifs are recommended for experienced double knitters. If you are still gaining confidence with the technique, you can simply leave out the more challenging panels and use the included length-extension options to make up for the difference in length.
Several options for customizing and extending the scarf are included, making it easy to adjust the finished length to suit your preferences.
Pictura + Mur Bella
Love both designs? The Pictura + Mur Bella Bundle combines the two patterns and gives you access to both collections of motifs. Since all panels are interchangeable, the bundle offers even more possibilities for creating your own unique scarf.
Whether you follow the suggested arrangement, rearrange the Pictura panels, combine them with motifs from Mur Bella, or create a completely individual design, you can make a scarf that is uniquely yours.
