Description
Description
This cardigan was originally a custom order for one of my friends from college, and it ended up being one of my favorite designs! Scarlett made its debut alongside the Sunflower Cardigan in May 2021. Unfortunately, after 4 years of working with the prelooped Bernat Alize EZ yarn, I started to have some personal health issues and decided to switch materials. However, I didn't want my 7 cardigan designs to be lost to time, so with my shift in materials, new upcoming designs, and a desire to encourage new fiber artists to try different mediums, as of November 2022 I've started writing and releasing the patterns I made for these finger knits. However, the Scarlett Strawberry Cardigan is a much loved design, and I want it to live on in this pattern.
I would say that the most difficult part of this pattern was explaining the sewing process, so be sure to check out the Youtube tutorial to watch me give detailed instructions!
This is my fourth pattern Ive written for finger knitting and Im excited to walk you through this :) The techniques are simple; with knowledge of how a knit garment works, how to seam together panels to make the body of a cardigan, and very basic hand sewing and crochet skills, youll be able to recreate this cardigan to your specific and personalized size in about a week! (This includes time to stretch and relax your hands; youll need it!)
If you decide to sell, and/or post pictures/videos of your finished cardigan, please link back to this pattern, tag me @SeamsbySky, and use the hashtag #ScarlettStrawberryCardigan. I'd love to see how yours turns out!
Level of difficulty: advanced beginner/intermediate
Sizing: This cardigan is written for a size S, but includes suggested measurements and instructions for sizes XS to 5XL as well. It should have a classic fit with a few inches positive ease; it should fit comfortably, and a little larger than your bust measurement. Note: this pattern is written with women's sizing charts, but since the cardigan itself isn't fitted, this pattern is friendly for men and androgynous body types. Please see the sizing charts for more information.
Note that this pattern requires a 3-8 balls of prelooped Bernat Alize EZ yarn in Cream (depending on your country, you can substitute this with Puffy Fine yarn from Alize Yarns in Light Cream.) Amount of yarn depending on sizes and lengths have been calculated for you below:
25 inches long:
XS: 3-4 skeins (54.7 yards)
S: 4 skeins (56.15 yards)
M: 4 skeins (56.25 yards)
L: 4 skeins (66.2 yards)
XL: 5 skeins (63.95 yards)
2X: 5-6 skeins (70.23 yards)
3X: 6-7 skeins (72.73 yards)
4X: 7 skeins (75.43 yards)
5X: 8 skeins (80.95 yards)
***NOTE: Im much shorter than the average height, so Ive added one extra skein of yarn more than how much the listed yardage would call for. If youd like to knit a longer cardigan, or if you feel you may need more yarn, I suggest following the number of skeins needed as opposed to the yardage.
1 ball of Bernat Blanket yarn in Crimson (55 yards)
1 ball of Bernat Blanket yarn in Smokey Green (110 yards)
Care Instructions:
Wash cold with like colors
Gentle cycle
Lay flat to dry in a space with good ventilation
Reshape as needed
PLEASE NOTE: as of 9/21/21 to the present, this pattern has a few placeholder pictures due to a material sensitivity on my part, and I have replaced them with photos used for the Cactigan and the Sunflower Cardigan pattern. Thus, you will see some pictures of the body of the cardigan in a green shade of yarn instead of white, or with a different color background, but they are still complete with instructions!
