Reworked & Updated Pattern This updated edition combines the four original Seashell Mermaid Tail Blanket sizes into one pattern. Choose your size below, then work the complete instructions for that size. The body is worked from the top down in connected rows; although it appears to be worked in the round, turn at the end of each row as directed. The tailfin is worked directly from the closed lower edge. Yarn weight is intentionally flexible. Mix and match several weights in one project if desired. Smaller-weight yarns may be held double, or a worsted-weight solid may be paired with a decorative carry-along yarn. Keep the same hook size; the variation in yarn weight adds depth to the finished blanket. If you use substantial amounts of worsted-weight yarn, check length as you work. Add additional shell rows in pairs so the decrease sequence remains aligned. Yardage is based on a single strand. If two yarns are held together, allow yardage for both strands over that portion. There is no prescribed color count or striping sequence. The design is intended to support one-of-a-kind color combinations. A striping yarn works especially well for the tailfin; purchase extra of the chosen tailfin yarn. No color changes are prescribed in the row instructions. Change colors wherever desired.
