Description
The Smoky Quartz Hooded Cowl is a fashionable but convenient accessory to wear with your coats and pullovers that don't come with a hood. The cowl has extra texture to resemble the crystals which are known to be a grounding stone because of its ability to help let go of the past without being bitter and moving on to a brighter future.
Pattern is worked in the round from bottom up: working a loose cast-on, scalloped edging, textured cowl body, then completed with the hood knit flat.
Use your choice of cast on. Sample was made using a long tail cast on with two needles for a loose edge: https://youtu.be/_Z9cP9b9uQM
Reference tutorial to get familiar with three-needle bind-off technique: https://youtu.be/Ph93jWSzTa0
When wrong side and right sides are referenced, this means the full purl bump texture is the wrong side and the strings of k3in1 is the right side.
To k3in1: draw up a loop knitwise, do not drop st off LN, wrap working yarn on RN from back to front, k1, then drop st off LN. Be sure to draw all loops double the length of needle to make the "crystals" pop.
To customize length of cowl, add/subtract more/less rounds in body section of pattern before moving to hood.
To customize length of hood, add/subtract more/less rows of garter pattern before three-needle bind-off.
To customize circumference, add 9 sts for every 2" desired.
