Description
Timeless and classic, this strapless bustier is a pattern you will be able to use over and over again. It is fully lined, has a separating zipper at the back, and has boning to add support. Use heavier textured fabric and add leather or lace trim for a steampunk design. Add embroidery and beading for a historical look. Simple solid cotton fabric in your character’s signature colour makes it easy to recognize for your Disney character or Magical Girl design. Is your imagination starting to take over yet?

For all its versatility, this is still a very easy pattern to sew. I have used the simplest possible construction methods so a beginner can make a beautiful finished product. You will learn about accurate seam allowance, fitting a garment, adding boning and sewing a zipper.

Materials
Fabrics
Main Fabric: 5/8 yard of medium weight non-stretch fabric. Solid cotton broadcloth is affordable and comes in many colours, but you could also use heavy satin, brocade, printed quilting cotton, or even vinyl or faux leather. 5/8 yard of light to medium weight non-stretch fabric. You can use a satiny lining fabric but I prefer plain cotton because it is breathable and not slippery so it helps the bustier stay in place.
Notions
Boning (at least 55” total or 4 pieces 13”-16”), thread, separating zipper at least 13” long, office supply tape, small hook and loop, 1 1/4 yards of 1/4” twill tape.
Accessories
Interlining: 5/8 yard of tightly woven non-stretch fabric. This layer will not show in finished garment so upcycled pillow cases or sheets in a tight weave, or pillow ticking fabric are good choices.
Tools
Sewing machine and zipper foot attachment, scissors, straight pins, hand sewing needle, seam ripper, Tailor‘s chalk or disappearing fabric marker and (optional) Tailor‘s pressing ham and hem gauge.
