A simple stocking to celebrate the season. Knit in traditional Christmas colours or go your own way the sky really is the limit. Knitted on two needles with simple increases for shaping, even the novice knitter could create one of these over a few evenings of television viewing.

The samples shown are knitted in various 8ply (DK/Light Worsted) yarns on needles two sizes smaller than generally recommended to create a robust fabric that will still stretch but retain its shape even when you've stuffed your stocking with gifties. However, feel free to use any yarn weight you like, just adjust your needle size. A finer yarn will produce a smaller stocking while something thicker will well you get the idea.

Because the shaping is simple and the fabric plain, this is a perfect stash busting project. Add all the multicoloured stripes or little hints of fluffy goodness as you please. Adjust the leg length to suit your stash or the size of your gift. Add some lace or ribbons or embroider the recipient's name or initials on the cuff.
