Description
Perfect *Absolute Beginner* pattern!

This project is worked in the round and only consists of 1 stitch.

This was the very first project I ever made as a new crocheter in 2003. I would crochet on and off from 2005-2012, and then I started crocheting consistently again in 2017. I've had a WIP stash ever since. <3

This is the perfect project to help you work on your tension! When learning how to crochet, tension can be hard to figure out, and because of that it can leave a project looking a tad unsightly sometimes. Practice half double crochets with this pattern, and if you aren't happy with how your first potholder looks, it can always be kept in a drawer.

This pattern is a tried and true classic! I know very few people who haven't made a potholder like this!
This pattern is for a single sized potholder, but if you need a different size, you can just adjust your starting chain count. Or head on over to @GrandmasPatternStash where she has a similar pattern with different sizes to choose from.

Remember that crochet isn't hard, it's just a new skill you're learning. It takes time and LOTS of practice. Never be ashamed of having to "Frog" (rip it or ribbit) your work. Practice makes perfect, and consistency takes time.

I can't wait to see how you customize your potholder!

Everyone‘s tension is different. If your project is still too tight and hard to work with, go up a hook size until the stitches feel comfortable. This works vice versa too, by going down a hook size until your stitches aren‘t too loose. You want your stitches to have structure, just not too tight or too loose.
If working in cotton yarn, note that your stitches will tighten up after laundering so it‘s okay if your stitches are a tad loose.
